Reporting to the Manager of Business Intelligence, the Data Analyst is responsible for a wide range of database and master data related duties within the BI and data management team. Playing a key role in CAPREIT’s data governance process, the data analyst will work with data stewards to ensure data quality, create and document data models, and collaborate with database developers to improve systems and database designs.

From coordinating with the data architecture team to transforming business problems to suitable cloud-based solutions, the Data Analyst will play a key role in all stages of the data management process, with focuses on development, implementation and maintenance. In order to succeed, the analyst must demonstrate both sound technical knowledge and outstanding soft skills.



Data Management:

  • Implement processes and documentation supporting data acquisition, validation, organization, and storage to establish a set of Certified Datasets to support analytics and reporting needs
  • Analyze problems and errors produced by business applications
  • Evaluate query design, data structure, and data quality to provide recommendations for improvement as needed
  • Manage data sources, databases, and data flows to ensure availability and consistency
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of master data across multiple systemsAudit data integrity and data management processes to ensure single source of truth for company-wide applications

Solutions Development:

  • Translate complex functional and technical requirements through discussions and meetings with stakeholders into detailed architecture, design, and high performing cloud-based solutions
  • Develop data sources, databases, and data flows that are appropriate based on the project team’s needs
  • Co-ordinate with other members of the team to build seamless data analytics solutions for visualization and analytics projects
  • Create end-user data sources and dataflows, and improve their efficiency by working with backend developers and database administrators to optimize underlying databases
  • Perform the extract, transform, and load (ETL) process for large datasets from diverse disconnected databases of both structured and unstructured type



  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience in database management or performance analytics
  • Experience with database languages such as SQL, Python, Spark, or NoSQL/MongoDB
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets preferred
  • Experience with cloud technologies would be an asset. Specifically – Hana, SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Stream Analytics
  • Experience with SAP ECC, BW and BODS suite of tools
  • Knowledge of big data infrastructures such as Hadoop or Snowflake will be an asset
  • Creative, innovative, and critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
